Make sure the person is able to see your face – avoid dark rooms or bad lighting
Do not talk from another room
Don’t look away when talking or talk with your back towards the person
Maintain eye contact
Be patient but don’t treat the person as if they are dumb
Even with a hearing aid, don’t expect the person to hear 100% all of the time
